The story of naturalist Terry L. Colborn and his gentle pursuit of birds of every shape, size and color, no matter where they may be.

I have had a passion for birds and wildlife since I was a young boy growing up in New Jersey. My awareness of natural history began at a very early age with an interest in all living things. Like many kids, I collected Lightning Bugs in a Skippy Peanut Butter jar; I have also been intrigued with reptiles and amphibians from an early age; but birds and birding have remained my primary life-long wildlife pursuit.
After moving to California in the late sixties to attend college, I have had the pleasure to bird extensively throughout the state and North America. My birding experiences have taken me to 48 states, Canada and Costa Rica. In the past twenty years I have led over 100 field trips to California’s birding hot spots, and have traveled numerous times to such renowned birding destinations as Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Ohio, Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Nebraska and Maine.
Like many avid birders, I consider learning about birds to be a life-long pursuit, and regularly take opportunities for new learning experiences through courses and field work. Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to bird with and learn from some of the very best birders in the county, including Jon Dunn, Rich Stallcup and Pete Dunne.
I hope you will consider joining me on one of my upcoming tours or field trips. Details are available under the Calendar and Tours tabs above. Lastly, I’d like to hear from you. Send me your birding questions, ideas and suggestions for trips and any general feedback you might have.
Thanks again for your interest in birding. I hope to see you in the field.
